Profile of Organisation: Indian Footwear Components Manufacturers Association (IFCOMA) was established in 1992 to bring the Indian footwear component manufacturers on a common platform to help them to understand the various opportunities, growth potential, export initiatives, problems and hurdles to faster growth of this crucial sector. The association sought to support and encourage the member footwear component industries in improving their quality, services and marketability in the domestic and international markets.
IFCOMA is the only association of its kind in India that is duly recognised by the government and many other trade institutions. We strive for better interaction amongst our members, government bodies and the shoe manufacturers worldwide. IFCOMA members have also made a very impressive entry in the export markets worldwide for their products. Most of the footwear exported from India is largely produced from Indian components.
Indian Footwear Component Manufacturers Association (IFCOMA), is an organisation managed by a duly elected apex body called the Executive Committee. Membership is open to all those who are connected with the footwear component and accessories manufacturing industry. The growth achieved by IFCOMA in the last five years is a result of the true democratic spirit of a vast number of dedicated entrepreneurs and professionals who have worked ceaselessly for the cause of the association.
IFCOMA is the voice of the Rs. 2000 Crore (US $ 500 Million) Indian footwear components industry on policy, development, research, technology, regulatory matters and myriad issues involving the industry and its growth prospects. Profile of Organisation: The International Council of Hides, Skins and Leather Traders? Associations represents the national hides, skins and leather traders? associations, together with private companies, in twenty countries. It is the only internationally recognised body of its kind.
Founded in 1929, it has remained a non-political organisation. Its principal remit has been the promotion, development and protection of the international trade in raw and semi-processed hides and skins as well as finished leather. Its success is reflected in the growing number of member countries and associate members which we have today. The Council supports free and fair trade.
Central to the work of the Council has been the drafting, publishing and constant up-dating of the International Contracts to ensure the integrity of our trade and, in addition, to afford maximum protection to our members whilst trading, be they buyers or sellers. Since the International Contracts came into existence some sixty years ago they have been successfully upheld by international Courts of Law and Chambers of Arbitration. Should problems arise, the Council provides assistance to its members in arbitration matters.
Another important field of activity is that of hide and skin improvement together with consideration for environmental issues. To this end, we set out guidelines and give advice on the production of and marketing of hides and skins in different parts of the world. This is done either independently or in conjunction/under the auspices of other internationally recognised organisations such as the FAO, UNCTAD, UNIDO and WTO.
At the same time we provide a forum, by means of our Annual Meetings, for the discussion of trading information and other related topics. This is circulated throughout the Membership so that individual members can be made aware of those events and trends in world trade which affect our industry. In addition, these meetings provide members with important and useful international contacts.
